John Butler Trio hail from Australia and are currently made up of John Butler (of course), Byron Luiters and Nicky Bomba. If you're looking for a fresh new band to get into, you've come to the right place my friend. Here are 5 reasons why you should be listening to John Butler Trio.
1. The music of the Trio is refreshingly original. They carry such a blend of folk, reggae, funk and soul that they don't easily fit into any particular genre - and I'm not so sure they need one anyway.
2. The message the songs carry are uplifting storied about life, love and overcoming the obstacles in your path, without sounding cheesey or cliche. There's an unmistakable honesty to John Butler's lyrics, and after listening to a whole album (or 2 or 3) you get the feeling that you've gotten to know him on a personal level.
3. The man. John Butler is more than just the charismatic, pirate-esque frontman of a rock band. He is - in the purest sense of the word - a musician. He possesses a skill, talent and understanding of the guitar that is rarely seen in today's mainstream music industry. His pickin' skills are best showcased in his instrumental song, "Ocean." You can see the video of his live performance of "Ocean" below. (Check it out, you'll thank yourself later.)
4. The band uses a didgeridoo in their live performance. How awesome is that?
5. The live show is something that should not be missed. The Trio put on one of the most energetic, sincere live shows that I have ever seen. These guys play to the audience, they get the fans involved, the interact with crowd and with each other. Many of their songs turn into longer jam sessions that you just don't want to end. They play with smiles on their faces and a determination to make each show seem personal and unique to the venue - even if it is the 15th stop on the circuit and they just played Austin a couple days ago. If John Butler Trio is coming to a town near you, please treat yourself to the show. You will not regret it.
So, there you have 5 reasons why you should be listening to John Butler Trio. This is just my opinion, and I can write all I want on the matter, but take a listen for yourself and let the music do the real convincing.
John Butler Trio are creating music straight from the heart and having a great time doing it.
